The Forest of Dean District Council has announced the cabinet changes subsequent to the recent local elections and we're delighted to say that two of the seven councillors are Green.

The Forest of Dean Green Party has announced its candidates for the rescheduled Newent & Taynton district council election.

On 2nd May 2019, Forest of Dean Green Party tripled their presence on the district council from two to six councillors – making them the second largest party on the council.

Following the lead of London and Bristol, the Forest of Dean District Council has moved to declare a Climate Emergency and bring carbon neutrality targets forward 20 years in light of recent warnings on the rate of global warming and its consequences for human life.

The Forest of Dean Green Party acknowledges the difficulty that a large number of Forest of Dean residents experience in their daily commute to work out of the area (and students to college) due to traffic congestion. We believe that urgent action should be taken to invest in rail infrastructure and connections, plus bus connections and services, to drastically reduce traffic congestion. The Forest of Dean Green Party does not, however, support the calls for a 3rd road river crossing.

The Forest of Dean Green Party has been put under pressure to support the campaign for the Forest of Dean to be designated as an Area of Outstanding Beauty (AONB). However we a calling for a designation that is more effective in protecting the area, more likely to be gained and more helpful to achieving sustainable goals locally (see our position statement here).

The National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) sets out the government's planning policies for England and how these are expected to be applied. It underpins all planning, including the Local Plan, in that all planning policy and decisions must comply with the NPPF. It is therefore an important document. The Forest of Dean Green Party responded to the draft revised NPPF consultation (see our response here).
