Whilst strongly supporting the principle of the creation of local jobs, the Forest of Dean Green Party disputes the viability and appropriateness of the Cinderford Northern Quarter scheme and believes that, due to the established wildlife and the inherent development risks of the site, the wrong location was chosen for the injection of large sums of public money. The Forest of Dean Green Party objects to the use of Forest Waste for housing development and the displacement of protected species. We also condemn the lack of openness and lack of meaningful public consultation which has been replaced by PR campaigning during the development of the project. Even at this stage, the delivery of the 980 jobs forecast is still in question and the Forest of Dean Green Party believes that a transparent and independent assessment of the viability of the employment sites would be prudent as a matter of urgency. We are also concerned that the protection of the bat SAC may be compromised in order to demolish the existing Northern United buildings.
We are starting a campaign for a Pesticide-Free Forest. Visit our campaign page for more information.
