20 May 2019
On 2nd May 2019, Forest of Dean Green Party tripled their presence on the district council from two to six councillors – making them the second largest party on the council.
The four new Green councillors are Nicky Packer in Newnham, Dave Wheeler in Newland and Sling, Mark Topping in Lydney West and Ayburton, and Andy Moore in Pillowell.
Existing Green councillors Sid Phelps and Chris McFarling comfortably retained their seats: Sid Phelps was returned with a decisive two-thirds of all votes cast in Lydbrook, and Chris McFarling beat his sole rival for the St Briavels ward, former Leader of the Council Patrick Molyneux, by a resounding 81% to 19%.
The Green Party returned record numbers of councillors nationally in last week’s elections, in what Green Party co-leader Jonathan Bartley described as “a phenomenal set of results.”
Local elections for Newent were delayed following the tragic death of our candidate, David Humphries. These are now taking place on 20th June. We are hoping to achieve David’s ambition of establishing Greens to represent Newent and Taynton ward.
We are starting a campaign for a Pesticide-Free Forest. Visit our campaign page for more information.
